a perfect weekend

Had a wonderful girl date with my friend, Jeandre. We went for a trail run on the farm and then had a lovely grilled cajun calamari and sushi dinner at Sapore.

Had a couple of gee ‘n tee’s with my main ladies Jackie Cameron and sous chef Elaine Boshoff from Hartford House.

Woke up reaaaaally late on Saturday. Remained in pj’s lolling around on the couch “watching” rugby (in other words, playing on Pinterest and writing blog posts).  That ref was kak hey, boet?

Took the dogs for a long walk in the hot weather and had a look at all our moo’s.  There are the sweetest little minky-soft calves bouncing about. Spring has certainly sprung.

Made homemade pizza (well, Andrew made, I poured the wine – as usual) on Saturday night.

Went for long run on Sunday morning.  Andrew brought out his bike, dusted it off and took it for a cycle. It appears we will be doing the picturesque 4 day cycle ride up the Transkei coast next year for my cousin’s wedding with all the le Roux family members – EXCITE!

Had a chilled braai on the lawn. Lay out a big picnic blanket and read my book in the sun while the cat and dogs clamoured over me.  Had an afternoon nap. Followed by another walk with the dogs to see the moo’s.  Got bowled over (literally) by the German Shepherd and the Labrador. I’m talking blood, grazes and grass burn. They’re in BIG trouble. The snooty cat has moved up to number 1 position in the favourite pet stakes, followed closely by the fluffy pekinese.

Wrote and wrote and read.

A perfect weekend, really.

some recent scenes of domestic bliss

We have been staying in a lot lately… not just because it’s cold, but because we’re saving money for our honeymoon (which is in 6 days, 3 hours, thirteen minutes and three seconds… seriously we downloaded a countdown app).  Our house was very bare when we first moved in a year ago, but slowly, slowly we have added a little here and there to make it HOME.  It’s all starting to come together and I am rather enjoying being a homebody.  Plus, when you’ve drunk a whole bottle of wine to yourself, getting to bed is much easier from your couch than from town.  Autumn means the farm is covered in leaves and it seems as if we will never be able to keep up with the sweeping, but on the plus side, the colours are beautiful.  I love the warm, sunny days of autumn, and the nip in the air in the evenings which enables us to light a fire.  Happy autumn all, let’s enjoy it before winter sets her icy feet in properly.

farm lifestyle

Today is a cracker of a day here in the Midlands.  The sun has come out and the air is warm.  We take our dogs for a walk on our farm every morning, but for some reason I thought I should take my camera today.  I’m so glad I did becasue the air is so still and the light so great that I snapped some amazing images of the mountain (on top of which we got engaged) prefectly reflected in the dam.  Absolutely beautiful.  I am so grateful to live where I do.  Lucky, lucky, lucky kid.
