exercise log – finding the balance

I’ve been pretty slack on the exercise logging, but don’t worry we have still been active every day this month (well I have).  Andrew took a well-deserved break on Saturday – he has been working so hard and has lost 4.5 kgs since the beginning of March.  He’s the slimmest he has been since I first met him and is looking so garrdam sexy.  It’s so cool to see him sorting through his cupboards and being able to fit into all his stylish old clothes again (the man has a wardrobe on him, I tell you.  It’s a damn shame he’s been living in baggy golf shirts and khaki short pants for the past two years).  I don’t care what anyone says,

No party, or bottle of wine, or yummy pizza compares to feeling fit and healthy, looking skinny and being able to fit into your jeans. TRUTH.

Not trying to be pro-ana here at all – by skinny, I mean slim, and by slim, I mean the best weight for your body-type and shape – but you know the feeling I’m talking about.  The one where you can sit comfortably in your clothes without your belly hanging over your waistband, the one where you can walk down the street without your thighs rubbing together.  It’s a great feeling and all I can say is that I’d rather feel like that in the morning then hungover and bloated.  It’s been a weekend of balance and fun (one glass of wine with dinner on Friday, 2 glasses of champagne and a Savanna Light on Saturday – and that’s it) and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything or that I had any less fun.  So maybe it can be done :)  Here’s to finding the balance, having fun and fitting into your skinny jeans!

Thursday 14th March: 30 min run, skip-rope, toning

Have a great week everyone – I hope it’s spent being active and eating well :)

Haha! You thought I had forgotten!  But no.  I will admit though, that this morning, I rolled around in my warm bed, contemplating how lovely it would be to just lie there all day reading this blog I have recently got totally addicted to, whilst drinking large amounts of coffee.  It was freeeeezing here this morning.  Polar bear and penguins freezing.  Anywho, we escaped to Pietermaritzburg where we went to the Virgin Active gym at Cascades.  It is a lovely gym, with a lovely Kuaui that serves really lovely coffee… jokes, I did actually work out first before my coffee.  I did a Yogalosophy session in a quiet studio, which was really great as it had surrounding mirrors – affording me the opportunity to ensure that my pose and posture was correct (don’t get that at home in my lounge – just have to guess that I’m doing it right).  I think I shall be rather stiff tomorrow :)

Monday 11 March:  30 min yoga session

Please lawd, let the sun shine tomorrow.  It’s not winter just yet!

Today I had to re-learn a lesson I learnt a while back in university when I used to run a lot:  no big steaks the night before a run.  Felt like I was carrying around a lead balloon on my run this morning.  Add to this the sneaky glass of red wine I had with said steak… it was a tough workout.  I did, however, manage to push past my usual route and add an extra five mins to my run.  Quality.  10km – I’m coming for you!  From now on though – only fish and chicken the night before a run.

Friday, 8 March:  35 minute run, skipping reps, pushups and situps.  Lots of back stretches!  My lower back is battling a bit with all the impact training.  Time for a massage :)

Loved our workout this morning.  Felt stronger than ever and ran further today than we have the last couple of mornings.  It’s amazing how in three days you can start to really change your body and your mindset.  I can’t wait for my run tomorrow!  In fact, I think I’m going to stay in my workout clothes all day so that I can go for a run after lunch. Just kidding.  Maybe ;)

Thursday 7th March: 30 min run (but more distance covered), skipping rope and toning (situps, pushups, v-ups etc) for 30 minutes.  10 minute cooldown walk.

With hubby officially on board my self-proclaimed March Movement Month (yes, he even wrote up a plan of action last night. How impressed am I?), this morning’s exercise was fun and social.  I so love encouraging people to be active, and I love encouraging Andrew to push himself.  Perhaps I was a personal trainer in a former life?  After quite a few months back on the smoking, drinking and non-active bandwagon, he did surprisingly well!  Not long before we sign up for our first 10km then- anyone know of any cool races happening around the Midlands soon? :)  This is what we did this morning:

Tuesday, 5 March:  30 min run, followed by 10 reps of 1 min skips.  In between reps, we did 15 push-ups and 25 sit-ups.  We cooled off with a walk down our looooooong driveway, accompanied by the dogs and our cat.  Guess the whole family’s in on March Movement Month then!
